PPE means Personal Protective Equipment and can vary depending on the environment, contagion, etc. In the case of COVID-19, PPE helps protect healthcare workers from exposure to the virus that causes the disease. Some examples include:

  • N95 Respirators
  • Surgical Masks
  • Protectice Goggles
  • Gloves
  • Faceshields
  • Coveralls
  • Gowns
  • Booties
  • Wipes

How can I help?

Thanks for your interest! An easy, impactful way to help is to get the word out to your friends, family, and coworkers so that healthcare providers know how to request PPE and donors can find facilities in need.

Here are some ways you can help:

  • Donate supplies from businesses and individuals, or make them with our handy guides. Anyone can fill out  this form on our web site to let us know the details of your PPE donation. If you need financial or logistical assistance delivering your donation, please get in touch.
  • Encourage healthcare institutions to register their PPE needs. On our site, they can easily register, edit, or remove their request for PPE with a single intake form
  • Volunteer – #GetUsPPE is a completely volunteer-run organization. We are grateful for how many people have come on board. At this point, we are looking to fill certain needs. Apply to join on our Volunteer page.

Please follow and share us widely on social media. We are on Facebook, Twitter (@getusppeindia), Instagram  and  the links to our parent organization are: Twitter (@getusppe), Facebook (getusppe.org), Instagram and LinkedIn (getusppe.org).

I have a database of donors and locations in need; can we merge? / I represent X organization and want to endorse/support you; can we talk?

How is GetUsPPE solving the problem of PPE shortages?

The founding team of physicians quickly realized that the most efficient way to help solve the PPE crisis was to partner with grassroots organizations across America with similar goals, the same concept was extended to India by collaborating with local partners. Our volunteer team is working hard to unify these efforts, datasets, and volunteers into a single, comprehensive resource. In just four days, we’ve rallied over a dozen community efforts to join forces as a single coalition, built a team of over 100 volunteer contributors, and unified a massive, multi-faceted PPE donation database. As this crisis escalates, supplies save lives and every minute counts.

There are 3 major approaches being taken today to address the PPE shortage. While organizations are operating separately to best focus our efforts, we are all in constant, active support of one another.

          1. Identify existing supply. Companies, academic labs, warehouses, factories, and even private citizens have approved PPE that they can donate. in.GetUsPPE.org (#GetUsPPE) serves to connect this donatable supply to local community need, today.
          2. Engage existing global supply chain. We have the capability to produce the PPE we need, including certified N95 masks. It will just take time. www.projectN95.com (The National COVID-19 Medical Equipment Clearinghouse) is focused on coordinating with manufacturers globally with the capacity to produce approved PPE, with the goal of making millions of units available for distribution within weeks.
          3. Empower makers and fabricators. While we wait for supply chains to ramp up, we need to find ways to supplement our donatable supply. In addition, there are potentially other critical shortages that have yet to fully emerge, such as an anticipated need for ventilators, or shortages in underdeveloped areas. Open-source alternatives to fully approved or certified devices may help to bridge the gap.We have partnered with OSCMS (Open Source Covid-19 Medical Supplies) to evaluate, design, validate, and source the fabrication of open source emergency medical supplies around the world, given a variety of local supply conditions. Open source designs are being medically and technically reviewed and documented with our healthcare worker’s safety as the number one priority. As designs are vetted, they will be added in real time to in.GetUsPPE.org to empower Makers and Fabricators to craft open-source alternatives that have the best chance of utility in the hospital setting.

I have a great idea for how to make a piece of PPE or improve a PPE design on your site, can you review it?

We have partnered with the Open Source COVID19 Medical Supplies (OSCMS) group to evaluate, design, validate, and source the fabrication of open source emergency medical supplies around the world, given a variety of local supply conditions.

If you are interested in submitting a PPE design for medical review, please submit it here. Open source designs are being medically and technically reviewed and documented with our healthcare worker’s safety as the number one priority. As designs are vetted by medical experts, they will be added in real time to in.GetUsPPE.org/makers to empower Makers and Fabricators to craft open-source alternatives that have the best chance of utility in the hospital setting.

How long does it take to make each design?

Prusa Face Shield – About 3 hours

Sewn Surgical Masks – 10 minutes to 1 hour, depending on sewing ability

I need supplies to make these things! Is anyone donating supplies or giving discounts?

Many suppliers are looking to support the maker community through donations and discounts. Please see our list of suppliers and their offers at: https://in.getusppe.org/makers/suppliers/

What is the Open Source COVID19 Medical Supplies (OSCMS) medical review team?

The Open Source COVID19 Medical Supplies (OSCMS) medical review team is made up of approximately 30 physicians, healthcare workers and providers, that review each design for its utility and safety in a healthcare setting, suggest appropriate modifications that may improve the design, and make suggestions on appropriate materials and other construction details if appropriate.

Reviewed designs are suggested for appropriate usage by the OSCMS Review Team and once approved, appear on the in.getusppe.org/makers site, with any suggested modifications or annotations, for widespread fabrication by makers. If you have an idea for review, please submit your design at https://bit.ly/2xsjWpO so the Open Source COVID19 Medical Supplies (OSCMS) technical review team can assess it. Note that this may take some time due to the sheer volume of new designs OSCMS is receiving. Thank you for your patience!
